Laminate Flooring
Laminated flooring is often confused with laminated hardwood floor. They are very different.
Laminate flooring is a tongue and groove interlocking flooring system that rests on top of the existing floor. The existing floor could be plywood, concrete, vinyl, hardwood or almost any other flat surface.
Laminate flooring is DIY (do it yourself) friendly because the flooring does not attach to the floor underneath -term for this is floating or float-in. Usually, only the joints are glued or attached and the laminate flooring rests unattached to an underlayment.
Laminate flooring technology has advanced to the point that some claim they are 10-20 times harder than laminate countertops. The surface is basically a form of resin which is so dense that laminate floors are extremely difficult to stain, or scratch - but they are not scratch proof!
Laminate flooring can be any design, as they rely on photographs or screens to produce their design. Most common are wood grain, marble, granite or other stone patterns where significant savings can be realized.
Laminate floors are easy to keep clean, and can be vacuumed, or mopped with a damp towel. Laminate floors should not stain or fade for at least 25 years, but you should check the manufacturers warranty to be sure what your coverage is. Most major brands also provide a lifetime warranty for surface moisture resistance.
